I was not intimate with a man for 3 yrs- Tiwa Savage

Tiwa Savage, Nigeria's diva and songstress recently opened up on her religious life, her views on marriage and sex along with a decision sometime back to abstain from sex with a man for 3 yrs.

The Multi Award winning superstar says she's a very spiritual person and does not joke with paying her tithes and that she is quite comfortable having conversations with God in any setting and that this is a side that most people don't know about her.

She said, “I may not always get to kneel down and pray but at some point in the car or wherever I am, I would have a conversation with God; I am very spiritual. I do not joke with paying tithe or speaking with God. I owe everything to him and I guess a lot of people don’t see that side.

“I gave my life to God on July, 16 2002 and I went through a tough time following that,” she added, says the 35yrs old songstress. 

The mavins First Lady continues on her life story stating, “Sometimes I would give my entire one month paycheck to the church; they asked for only 10%, but I would give the entire 100%. People scoffed and said “she is new in the faith, just give her another year”.

“And for three years, I was not intimate with a man. I didn’t kiss or have sex. Every time I hugged a man it would be from the side. A lot of people can relate to that because it has happened to a lot of us but the key is to be consistent,” she added.

She also said that her husband has a lot of faith and confidence in her and is not worried about men that she comes a cross within her work that is flashing money in front of her because growing up she was never into boys and as a self professed tomboy, and the only girl among 3 brothers she was very comfortable dressing down and rolling with the boys.

MTN pursue further reduction on the N680 Billion fine imposed by Nigerian Officials

African largest telecommunications giant MTN, is seeking to further pursue a reduction in the N680 Billion fine imposed by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), despite 35 percent recent reduction in fine amount with a more conducive payment terms.

MTN's parent company announced yesterday in Johannesburg, South Africa, that it had secured a reduction of the fine imposed on it by NCC from N1.04 trillion to N680 billion ($3.4 billion), with NCC giving MTN a deadline of December 31 to pay up the revised amount.

NCC imposed the fine on MTN in October for failure to meet its deadline for the disconnection of 5.2 million unregistered subscribers. Under the regulator's rules, a N200,000 surcharge was fined per unregistered subscriber.

However, an official of the company recently stated that, "Even with the reduction to $3.4 billion, no company has that kind of money lying around to pay in one fell swoop and in such a short time frame.

"We are certainly going to appeal the new fine and hope that NCC will accept out plea." A source also told Reuters that MTN was likely going to open up new negotiations on the issue. "The fine is still big enough to cripple MTN's ability to invest in its network and that's what further talks with the NCC are about."

The executive chairman of MTN Group, Phutuma Nhkelo, released a recent statement to shareholders in Johannesburg, saying that he would immediately and urgently re-engage with the Nigerian authorities before making any formal response.

He stated: "Furthermore, as it is essential for the company to follow due process to ensure the best outcome for the company, its stakeholders and the Nigerian authorities and accordingly all factors having a bearing on the situation will be thoroughly and carefully considered before the company arrives at a final decision."

Nigerian Senate reviews new bill that heavily sanctions people that falsely criticize the government; Questionable or not?!

The Nigerian Senate, on Thursday, reviewed a bill pushed forward by Bala Ibn Na’allah, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress from Kebbi State. Nigerian Senate, the proposed bill allows for heavy sanctions for people who “falsely” criticize public officials or institutions.

The bill, has been widely criticized, and is seen as not only a significant step backwards on freedom of speech, but a deliberate targeting of critics of federal lawmakers and the National Assembly.

In recent years, with the advent of social media as well as other easier outlets for communications, it has been a lot easier for bloggers as well as journalists to shine a spotlight on issues of government financing, decorum and ethics, which at times left an unfavorable taste in the mouths of members of society.

However some government have complained on the lack of legitimacy on some of the stories against some government officials and for the unscrupulous and blackmailing writers out there, they have come up with a bill to sanction false publications on government officials.

Some bloggers and journalist alike view this as questionable and and infringement on their right to public free speech and feel unfairly targeted by senate.

The bill says, "Not withstanding, anything contained in any law, it shall be unlawful to submit any petition, statement intended to report the conduct of any person for the purpose of an investigation, inquiry and or inquest without a duly sworn affidavit in the High Court of a state or the Federal High Court confirming the content to be true and correct and in accordance with the Oaths Act.

"Any petition and or complains not accompanied by a sworn affidavit shall be incompetent and shall not be used by any government institution, agency or bodies established by any law for the time being enforced in Nigeria.

“Any person who unlawfully uses, publishes or cause to be published, any petition, complaint not supported by a duly sworn affidavit, shall be deemed to have committed an offence and upon conviction, shall be liable to an imprisonment for six months without an option of fine.”

It continues: “Any person who acts, uses, or cause to be used any petition or complaints not accompanied by duly sworn affidavit shall be deemed to have committed an offence and upon conviction, shall be liable to an imprisonment for a term of two years or a fine of N200,000.00 or both.”

It also states that, “Where any person in order to circumvent this law makes any allegation and or publish any statement, petition in any paper, radio, or any medium of whatever description, with malicious intent to discredit or set the public against any person or group of persons, institutions of government, he shall be guilty of an offence and upon conviction, shall be liable to an imprisonment term of two years or a fine of N4,000,000.00.”

Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum calling for re-negotiation of minimum wage due to Nigeria's poorer state of economy

The governor of Zamfara State and current chairman of  the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), Abdulaziz Yari yesterday said governors, the Presidency and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) should re-negotiate the 18,000 minimum wage.

His premise was Nigeria as a country has always been heavily dependent on it's oil revenue and due to that the reduction in oil prices per barrel in recent years it has made it difficult for states to balance their budgets and worse yet leaving some states biting off more than they can chew in terms of balancing State overhead cost with state budget. This has lead to his insistence on States to renegotiate minimum wage, which is currently N18,000 to fit with the economic times.

He goes on to say,“What we said is that when the National Assembly enacted the law of paying N18,000 minimum wage, oil was about $118 per barrel and today oil is sold for $41 per barrel.

“So, if it continues, definitely, we will find it difficult to continue. We have to sit down with labour and see how we can review, either continue or downsizing or what we are going to do. We want to find a solution because we have to be realistic that we have so many things to touch. There is infrastructure deficit, there is need for security, there are other things, such as social lives of our people and the nation as a state.

“The receipt from federation account, some people received N400 million, N500 million. Some others received N55 million, two digits. And there are other issues.  Not even the salary, their pension is over a billion. So, how can we continue borrowing and servicing the service aspect of our expenditure, or overhead? How can we do that?

“We are telling the public that we are planning to sit down with the President and his team and the governors as a team and the experts to come out with the way forward and how we are going to handle the poor state of the economy.

He also goes on to say about those opposing his views, "I can understand why the governor of Rivers state is speaking the way he is speaking. He thinks every place is Rivers. It is not.”

Jidenna's open letter of apology to Nigerians on recent comments he made

The "I'm a Classic Man" crooner recently made a statement on VLAD TV about during the time of his fathers burial 5yrs ago his family had to hire commandos and carry lots oh AK 47 to use as protection from kidnapping and that light skinned people where especially kidnapped in Nigeria. This resulted in a lot of backlash on twitter from a lot of Nigerians. Jidenna released an open letter of apology to his fellow Nigerian brothers and sisters to clarify earlier statement,

"In the recent interview to which I’ve been referring, I shared my family’s experience traveling from the States back home for the burial. In this interview, I used the term “light-skinned.” When using this term, I was actually referring to my immediate family’s mixed or biracial appearance. See, no matter what language I use to describe my heritage, I’m certain that someone will feel some kind of way."
